Oluronbi - biography - photos - email - projects - homepage THE SONG OLURONBI is a popular folksong in Yorubaland and the story of this woman was told a long time ago. The artiste "KWEEN" used the song to lay a chorus foundation for her own version. The chorus is sung in Yoruba dialect and has its language structure buried in English (especially the verses/adlibs) and the featured artiste, PASUMA efficiently comes in at a high point with a clever blend of fuji sensational lyrics blended into what sounds very afro-centric. Ruff sounds production uses this piece as a tool whereby music conscientizes the listeners and strongly downplays such inherent tendencies by women especially mothers - a fight for humanity. In trying to further highlight this and conform to audio and visual quality a music film has been produced in what is seen as an elaborate piece that encompasses totality of African art and tells a story about a whole lot more that it seems.
THE STORY
The kickback against the accumulation of wealth in return for blood and life is exposed in the high pitched lyrics and cry manifested artistically by KWEEN.
THE MOVIE
The video was shot by the Christian Broadcasting Network, Abuja. In a typical village setting, the video opens with OLURONBI and her travails as a poor woman and a final decision to visit the IROKO and talk all about her strong need for material wealth. In the course of this mission, KWEEN intervenes. The artiste ‘KWEEN’ represents a people, a force, a voice – a symbol of peace and love that protects and fights against our evil vices. She appears on set as an immortal being and follows her primary assignment not in the spiritual (which she represents) but in the physical. She transforms from her angel appearance into a young woman who challenges OLURONBI in dialogue and music messages. OLURONBI fights this challenge as desperation and greed has taken over a better part of her evil intentions. Through a series of confrontations by the woman the song takes us through the forest environment to a high point where OLURONBI wards off all warnings and has managed to lure her daughter to the shrine. A revelation of the artiste in her spiritual form and her guardian force (PASUMA) takes place in a packaging of music, dance and drama.
The dance originally created and choreographed by Spitz Josef, brings to view an exhibition of the African embodiment of total artistry. The song climaxes here and finishes with an OLURONBI who is left with no alternative but to return with her child having being rebuffed by this revelation. The video was shot at different locations in Abuja and took a whole month of total packaging from rehearsals to costume designing which was created by crew members of Ruff Sounds. It was also edited at the studios by the Christian Broadcasting Network Ruff Sounds will make further efforts according to events manager, Spitz Josef in informing the people on sights and sounds that have rich African values. The song should hit the TV stations immediately after the premiere/launching of this video both in Abuja and Lagos. This eventually will take place in the month of October and made available for radios in the same month. |
